    Side Vegetable Mint vs Elwing

    Sunny 21°C / 69°F Neutral

The mint’s winning. I’ve even resorted to Round Up to try to get rid of it. I’ve gotten most of the larger plants out of the box, but I know there are still some roots hiding under the ground. Tonight is the first attempt at mowing the yard, and once that’s done, I’ll be out in the garden again getting rid of mint. It’s a very nice garden plot, and over the winter I’ll be sterilizing the soil so that I don’t get any mint back, but unfortunately, that means no onions, or garlic planted for next year :(

Don’t get me wrong, I like mint, but not when it’s completely taking over the garden and starting to make inroads on my lawn!

    Backyard Garden Really Large Zucchini

    Sunny 30°C / 86°F

We went away for the weekend and came back to a very large zucchini on the plant. Until last week, we’d only gotten really small fruit (still good to eat), but last week we got a good sized one, and this week we got this huge one. It was really hot over the weekend, and I was a bit worried about the plants

    Tomato 'Cherry' planting Raccoon thief

    Sunny 34°C / 94°F

When we came home, a raccoon thief had knocked the plant over and taken all the ripe tomatoes and a few of the green ones. Lucky, he left us some green tomatoes to keep growing.

Summer Squash 'Burpee's Golden Zucchini' planting Harvesting: First Zucchini

We got our first Zucchini Squash this past weekend. There are about 7 more on the plant as well, and I’m not sure when to harvest them all. They’re not as large as the zucchini that I get at the grocery (they’re only 3-4" long), and I’m not sure if they’ll get longer. I’m waiting on the others until I see some kind of “sign” that they’re ready.
