I’m a midwifery student, mom to 2, living in Portland Oregon.
I’m new to gardening, having attempted a few times with varying degrees of success. This year, my garden is limited because we’re working on siding the house, so there is a great deal of construction going on. I basically have two tomato plants, and a very uber happy rhubarb plant. There is also a random horseradish that came back in an old planter in the corner.
I have begun composting this year as well, so that has been working out great.
My grandfather had a vividly green thumb and loved his garden to the end. I’m hoping he’ll bestow some of that on me now.

Zone 8 In front of the house, there is a spot that gets mostly shade in the summer, full sun in the fall/winter. Maybe blueberries? Or currants?

Zone 8 My plan for next year is to have a raised bed garden in the front yard. This fall, will till it up, and make mulch it to be ready for the spring.

Zone 8 Other side of the driveway, might be a great spot for grapes., over an arbor in front of the fence, before the chicken yard/coop and shed.

Zone 8 Will be near the front yard vegetable garden, in a separate raised bed, mulched over this winter so I can have some herbs growing outside my kitchen window.
