Silver Charming's Greenhouse garden
I constructed my greenhouse using a tubular gazebo frame, bamboo canes and a very large plastic bag. It cost me about a tenner to do and so far it’s held up well! I like making do and mending and take far more satisfaction in doing this than going out and buying something pretty. Right now, this is the hub of my first experiment in growing my own! I started a little late in the year, really, but I’m having a shot anyway

I love to see ingenuity and invention, and the idea of a greenhouse made out of a big bag really tickles me. What a fantastic idea! I’d be chuffed if I had made something like that, and I think you made a very neat job of it too.
I hope it does not get too windy in your area though… That is probably the only drawback.

That is a great looking greenhouse! But where did you find such a big “plastic bag”? :-)

Happibun, I will admit I was a little worried about it getting blown around when we had those gales last week, but it survived! Gintoino, I was cheeky and phoned around local factories. One of them gave me this bag for free. It was 8 foot by 7 foot, and was so long I actually had to cut it down!
Thankyou both for your comments. I couldn’t wait until I had saved enough money to buy a proper one, and the ones coming up on freecycle were either too shabby or two small. This one was going to be temporary, but I like it so much I’m going to save up for something else instead. I do like trying to build things from scrap instead of buying them, I have an idea to build my own compost tumbler next, in the next week or two I hope to try it.
