Spidra's Business in Front garden

Created on Wednesday, 17 Oct 07

I live on a busy street in a poor neighborhood so in addition to the regular environmental challenges of soil, amount of sun, wind, slope, etc., I have to worry about a lot of particulate pollution (as well as the not-so-particulate pollution), trespassers, and litterers. I am committed to edible landscaping but because I know I’d be upset if people stole my harvest, I have to plant “stealth edibles” that most Americans don’t recognize as food.

No. It’s not because people here are hungry. They have money to spend on cell phones, rims, cigarettes, etc. etc. It’s because some people here have the attitude that other human beings are around to be harvested. Feel like having a PS3? Don’t save up for it, just break into your neighbor’s house and steal theirs. Feel like giving someone a flower? Don’t divert your cigarette money towards buying a flower, just rip one off a neighbor’s plant. No, I feel no need to be a stalk of wheat in someone’s self-centered and destructive human harvest.

Have visited your blog. How ignorant are people? These little strawberries are strawberry-concentrate! They taste to die for, as long as they get a bit of sun and the slugs dont get them.
