Froosh
Froosh's Food garden

Created on Monday, 22 Sep 08

Ok, the good news is: It’s a fresh start. The bad news is: It’s a fresh start.

It’s a reasonably fine grain clay subsoil (extremely sticky when wet, but love the platform shoes it builds!), includes a lot of volcanic rock (we’re on the slopes of an ancient, extinct shield volcano), and has been thinly veneered with “topsoil” by the builder when they were finishing the site.

I say “topsoil” because when they laid it in with the bobcat it had been raining for a good few days, and so the soil has been churned quite nicely with the clay. Definitely going to be needing a lot of organic matter to loosen things up.

I’ve marked the garden as “organic” although I don’t know the origin of the soil brought in, or much of the history of the site. I do know the whole estate development we are in used to be a chicken farm, but don’t yet know my local block history.
