Dr Slippers's Allotment garden

Created on Sunday, 05 Oct 08

Started November 1st 2008

The allotment has 75ft ‘field’ in front of a greenhouse and potting shed, behind this is a shack and a 70ft ‘field’. Beyond this is another 50-60ft before you fall in the canal.

I plan to work the plot on my tod, so it will take a while, but should get me fit and fed, in time.

This lot is huge! Now let me get this straight, this is a lot that is different than your backyard garden I have looked at before? Did you move your greenhouse or is that another greenhouse? Planning to have chickens roaming the allotment?

This plot is completely new to me, I have been using parts of the family garden to grow a few veggies for the last few years, whilst I was waiting for my allotment.
The big fancy greenhouse was left on the plot by the previous occupants and is now mine for free, I can’t believe my luck!
I will eventually move one of my other greenhouses from the family garden at home to my new plot, at the moment my chickens are using it as a their favourite haunt, and it will be handy for them when it snows.
The allotment is perfectly situated to get full sunlight, whereas, as you will have seen, our garden is surrounded by trees, reducing the sunlight and making the greenhouses too shaded.
So next spring I will bring one at least, of my old greenhouses down here.
I’m on the lookout for a poly-tunnel eventually as we seem to get more rain these days.
As far as keeping chickens are concerned, I have been asked to refrain from keeping poultry, as the pigeon fanciers are worried about transmission of respiratory disease.
I may keep Angora rabbits, for their meat and the woolly jumpers though.
