Progress report
In 2 1/2 weeks we’ve had bright sunshine and heat every day, plus I managed to remember to water. We’ve got 3 days coming of cool and rain (I hope) but then it’s supposed to get warm again. If I’d thought of doing this 2-3 weeks earlier, I’d be doing great. As it is, if the frost holds off as long as it did last year (October 29!) I should get crops on the cool weather stuff at any rate, although the beans probably don’t have time. This all makes me wonder why, in 20 years, have I never done a second planting? We’ve got an easy 120-150 day growing season. Seems odd that this never occurred to me, and it literally never occurred to me.
Everything looks very healthy, and about the right size for their ages. The netting is working to keep the squirrels at bay, but I’m going to have to remove it soon so it doesn’t shmush the seedlings; at which point I think the squirrels will think they’ve landed in loose dirt nirvana. Camera died, had to recharge it, so pix tomorrow.

You probably didn’t think of it before because gardeners are so focused on the big summer plants like tomatoes and cucumbers. We don’t think about cool weather crops like broccoli and spinach because they aren’t as flashy. I’m going to try and get three plantings in next year.
I like watching your experiment. I’m learning from it.
