New members of the family (and plant fengshui strikes again).
Bought Pandan (Pandanus amaryllifolius) and Indian Borage (Plectranthus amboinicus) today.
The Indian Borage has an unique and intense scent, not quite like rosemary but more primal, musky. Finely chopped, it can be added to bread stuffing, according to my Periplus book Handy Pocket Guide to Asian Herbs and Spices. (pg. 19)
The Pandan can be used to flavor sweet desserts. It is quite a versatile plant, even used as an insect deterrent! In some of the local cabs, you will find bunches of pandan leaves because it is reputed to chase pesky insects like cockroaches away.
Also did some plant fengshui. Plant fengshui is what I term my plant shiftings and re-locations. My husband suggested getting a plant stand/rack and so we did. So, the curry-leaf shrub and the aloe-vera (mother and daughters) found themselves resting on the new rack. The small palm joined them, leaving the Norfolk Island Pine behind. The Pine ended up becoming the door sentry. I just hope that it gets enough light!

The bunches of pandan thing really does seem to work against cockroaches. At my parents’ house, they put pandan leaves in the cupboards to keep them away. Cool useful new purchases :)

I think they are definitely better than mothballs (ick) or insecticides. Natural and with an earthy fragrance. :)

yay for plant fengshui! I tried to start a fengshui group here, but got no takers. I also use this for plant placement, thinking about all aspects of the plant, including associations, scent, color, shape and use. For that matter, using pandan to drive away the cockroaches is actually using the plant’s fengshui as well.

I also do that, in some degree. Sometimes, I look at the ‘flow’ of the area and try to work with it. Sometimes, you can feel the effect straightaway. :)
