craftscout Getting the "Fall Garden" Started

Sunday, 07 Sep 08 (posted about 3 months ago) Sunny 22°C / 72°F

4 season planting is something that is done weird down here in Texas. Theoretically we get a freeze each year, but it is usually light enough to just run out and cover tender stuff up with a blanket. For instance, I could (if I wanted to) probably start sweet potatoes out now and be able to harvest them. Maybe even some squash. We can plant tomatoes from seeds until the beginning of August. Basically our growing season is so long, that if I were to use the information given in most books, it would be wrong! :) I am so glad to find a bunch of information on the web to help guide me until I know my particular microclimate.
