cmagnus Today's Harvest

Sunday, 07 Sep 08 (posted about 3 months ago) Sunny 22°C / 71°F

My partner went out to throw yesterday’s big bunch of kale stems on the compost pile this afternoon and wasn’t attacked by yellow jackets. (Aside: a full third of my refrigerator is full of kale leaves that need to be processed.) So I decided it was safe to go out. I wasn’t attacked by yellow jackets either. This is a very exciting development. Maybe they’re reacting badly to yesterday’s all-day rain-o-thon. Or maybe they’ve found greener pastures. Either way, if I’m lucky, they won’t come back. The cute little green bees were out in force today. I’ll take that as a good sign.

My haul:
2 eggplants, a moderate quantity of green longbeans. 2 dried longbeans, 3 bunches of coriander, 1 nasturtium seed.

    Those are gorgeous eggplants.

The GDS (s for squirrel) dug up mine trying to bury peanuts. I’m so jealous — they look perfect.

Sorry about your eggplants :(. I’m very lucky to have a trap crop in the form of a 3 story tall apple tree next door. We get a fair number of half-eaten apples on our lawn, but it keeps the little buggers distracted.

I have EPE (e is for envy) too. Mine just would not grow this year. I shall look for white next year… they are just so darn intriguing.

I just bought eggplant plants from a local farm market. I figured farmers know best what grows in the area. Is it me, or does it just seem odd to say eggplant plants?

Your harvest is amazing! How many plants do you have, and if it’s just the one, which is what it looks like, then: !!!!!

There are two eggplant plants. They’re 4-5 feet tall and they’re each 3-4 feet across. I really wasn’t expecting them to be so big. I have been getting 1-4 eggplants a day. I wasn’t expecting that either.
