Flowers flowers everywhere but not a bean to eat!
These stupid broad beans have been flowering for MONTHS! AND STILL NO BEANS! I’m wondering if it’s possible that the drainage of the raised bed is bothering them, since they apparently like plenty of water and it might be running off too fast, even though I’ve been good about remembering to water regularly.
I’m so frustrated though. The tomatoes need to go here post-haste, and I’m heartily sick of waiting for beans off these plants. I want to have the luxury of being able to give them more time but I just don’t think I can. They get two more weeks, I think, then they’re out.
If anyone has ANY suggestions about what is causing my broad beans to flower, but not fruit, I would be pleased to hear them.

Mine are doing the same, zillions of flowers but no beans. I pulled out one lot to put potatoes in, and have been holding out for the other lot to produce something edible.

Oh good, I’m so glad I’m not the only one this has happened to! Must be something funny about the weather this year for broad beans in our region. Have you ever grown broad beans before? If so, did they/when did they set fruit?

Maybe some necessary insect is in short supply or still sleeping off the winter?

This is the first time that I have grown broad beans. I was going to check with another friend of mine who has grown broad beans before to see when they would most likely produce some beans.

Have faith – after all the recent sunny days in Sydney I now have baby beans growing. After all that glorious flowering time, looks like something is coming on. Hang in there.

I can now say that I can see baby beans growing on my plants as well.

Oh wow that’s such good news! I may get some beans before I turf them after all!
I’ve been very very decidedly NOT looking at the broad bean plants for a few days, hoping for a pleasant surprise next time I check on them.
