Tomatoes both big and small!
I grew tiny Gardeners Delight and Balconi Yellow, mid size Alicante (a gift from friends) and the large tomato ‘Big Beef’.
The damp humid summer of 2008 meant that blight was a real problem (as well as the plants being drastically overwatered by both hubby and uncle when I was away from home for ten days in July). Despite a lot of fruit forming, they didn’t actually get round to ripening until the very end of August. The Gardeners Delight were troubled with split skins, the Big Beef rotted from the stalk down but the Alicantes were pretty sturdy. Sometimes the old varieties are the best …
