gubeedal Addicted to canning.

I canned again the other day. Made some more giardiniera. This time I made it REALLY hot! On top of the banana and jalapenos I usually add, I added serrano peppers as well. there are also some white carrots from my dad’s garden (which were GINORMOUS by the way, I should have taken pics). The colors were so beautiful together! I canned this humongous batch into little half pint jars. Matt has been selling them on the job for $2.00 each. So I’m making a little bit of a profit :) Plus, we don’t know what to do with 30 half pints of giardiniera! It seems to be a hit! people keep asking for more! I have canned so much this year. Between the salsa, and now three batches of giardiniera, I have an entire cabinet dedicated to the food I have canned. lol!

On another note, I brought all my plants in for the winter yesterday. I had a fungus gnat problem last year, so I took extra precaution this year and as soon as I brought them in I doused them with Gnatrol, which is supposed to kill gnat larvae that live in the soil. Then, I got these things called gnat stix (or bug stix depending on where you get them) and they are basically mini flytraps on sticks that you put directly in the soil, so when the gnats come out of the soil, they will be immediately attracted to the trap and, well, you know the rest. Fingers crossed! I’m hoping it works! Right now they are just hanging out by the big sliding glass door so they can get as much light as possible. Soon we will be setting them up in their walk-in closet home with grow lights. When they go there, I will be putting a bowl of apple cider vinegar near them to have one last defense against the gnats.

Eek, gubeedal, my plants are still outside. Warmer by the lake maybe? Or maybe I should stop playing with fire and just bring them in. Your canning adventures sound great— I didn’t get enough planted this year. Next year for sure! (can you tell I’m a Cubs fan?)

The hights have been about 61, with the lows being about 45 at night :/ I was worried and had yellow leaves on a few plants. It was time.

Well, neither of us is very happy today, whatever the temperature. I figured this town would go up in flames if they both won, but both losing yeesh, guys, we can’t take it. Would one of you win the Series already? (Still 6 games to go between them, but I’m not sure my heart can take it.)
