newbee When do I have to prune?

Monday, 06 Oct 08 (posted about 1 months ago)

I have never pruned before and I am wondering when must I start pruning!

My flower tower is almost all covered with plants. I tried trimming one small portion about 10 inches from root, but it didn’t flower afterwards. Did I do something wrong? Trimming was about 2 weeks ago.

    Your flower tower looks gorgeous!

When to prune? When the plants show new growth or that the flowers have already wilted or look wilted. I think we call it ‘dead-heading’.

That plant doesn’t look like it needs pruning. I’d just cut it back when it hits the floor (maybe…), and cut back anything that, as Jolantru says, dies. Make sure you cut just above any point where it is branching. Lots of pruning advice through google, just google “prune” or “cut back” and the name of the plant (or if you don’t know, “prune flowering plant”).
