nax Fruiting: Photo update

Friday, 10 Oct 08 (posted about 1 months ago) Sunny 18°C / 64°F

I gave up on the second plant. There was fruit setting, but just too slowly. This one, about a week ago I pinched back all flowers/buds that hadn’t set fruit yet so that it could focus on the three that were going strong. Lost one— it split, so I pulled it off. The two left are looking good; I wish I had another week, but it’s looking like low 40s or even 30s overnight by late next week, so I’ll play a little weather roulette with these and see how big they get.

My eggplant are still producing, albeit slowly. I kept row covers on them for the last few weeks. I just moved the row covers to the squash, because I’ve been wooed by a potential halloween (or maybe thanksgiving) pumpkin. In any case, it’s gotten down to 40s in the nights for about a month, and has gotten to the mid 30s a few nights. I think you’ve got a chance, despite the weather. You can always throw old sheets over them if it’s dipping into the 30s. You can harvest them even at the tiny stage and eat them if it gets to the point of actually freezing. The tiny ones are pretty delectable.
