Budding: Small Bud
One of the sunflower plants appears to be budding. It is the shortest one with the smallest leaves, surprisingly. The other plants also look like they may be budding as they look a bit swollen in the center with strange things poking out that don’t look like leaves. But I can’t be certain what they are producing until they get a bit bigger. I’m kind of surprised these plants are budding as they have only about 5 leaves on each plant The seed leaves and first couple of leaves have dried out sometime ago.
I’m happy they are budding, but also a bit sad as it will be a challenge for us to see them bloom. We will be away for 2 weeks next week, and then after that for a few months. I intend to put them in a cobbled-together self-watering “planter” but I’m not sure if it will work. Plus, I intend to place the “planter” indoors so the plants will only be getting about 1-2 hours of direct sunlight per day (or maybe none at all if our housemate wants to draw the curtain).
