Harvesting: Microwave Dried
In preparing my garden for self-survival, I have transplanted all the thyme plants that I will be keeping and pulled out the rest. There were about a couple of dozen small thyme plants that were pulled out, and I decided to use Cmagnus’ by now patented method of drying herbs in a microwave oven. As everybody who tried it has said, it was fast, the herb retained their colour and the kitchen smelled very herb-y thereafter. It took 4 X 30 seconds in the microwave oven and after that I stripped the leaves from the tough stems and put them in a used herb jar to bring home. I reckon I have enough dried thyme to cook a couple of meals for my family at home, so they can taste something that I have grown.
#1: Small pile of dried thyme.
#2: Thyme in herb jar.
#3: Dried thyme on kitchen paper.
#4: Fresh thyme on kitchen paper.
#5: Washed thyme draining in colander.

I have so many bottles like that— someone put the wrong label on and I had to correct it! ;)

Oh yep, I saw your incredible collection of bottles on your spice rack in one of your pictures (with the madeleine tray in between). It’s a dream of mine to have something like that some day so I can have the exact herb or spice I want to use. Plus, I can then refill them without having to re-label!
