Collecting leaves
With Fall here I have been collecting as many leaves as I can fit into my compost bins and extra trash cans. Nitrogen I can get o’plenty in the form of plant cuttings and kitchen scraps. But carbon is a different matter. This is the time of year that I need to stock up on every carbon source I can store so that I can use them during the rest of the year. As the days go by I mix in the kitchen scraps and leaves from my stock pile. So, while others are waiting for snow, I am watching the carbon fall from the sky.

You know what? We do the same thing. My wife calls it “leafnapping”, and she scopes out good piles of leaves, ones without extra junk in them, piled up in front of houses.
I think we have 15 bags collected so far, but we are not sure how many we will need to last the year. Maybe just a few more bags.

Leave thieves! 15 bags sounds like a good amount. How many compost bins do you have? I have two of the Smith & Hawkin 3 level stacking type. I just added some yard debris and more leaves this afternoon. I try to turn them every couple of weeks Between that and the worms that live in there, they seem to break down pretty quick.
