Tomato 'Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye' Transplanted: Starting Off
I don’t have enough energy to do all the things I should do if I were to be giving the EarthBoxes their best chance (emptying out old soil, sterilizing the containers, using brand new potting soil, etc) but at least I’m planting these tomatoes in an EarthBox that was not growing tomatoes last season.
I used the old soil, taking out any weeds that had grown and scraping off the top layer. I supplemented it with the old planting soil I got from the Friends of Sausal Creek Nursery and added a little of 4-6-4 organic fertilizer. I used a scrap bit of WeedBlock cloth to cover it up since EarthBox.com charges so darned much for its replacement parts. This is the first time I’ve used anything permeable on top. Last year I used old potting soil bags and plastic grocery bags.
The ‘Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye’ is planted nearer to the improvised water tube (the stupid workmen we hired lost loads of my EarthBox parts when they were moving stuff around the back yard).
