The center of the plant is getting redder! Next week the temperatures are really supposed to drop, so I’m not going to harvest yet.
I tied the leaves together a couple of days, but untied them because it was all getting a bit too soggy and wet; I was afraid the leaves might rot.

I tied these up losely with a bit of string, to keep them off the (wet) soil and to ‘bunch them up’ a bit more.

I learned from the BBC gardening site that these guys get darker after cold weather, so I’m going to wait a little bit longer.
An Italian seed site also said they need cold weather to turn red. It said to expect to harvest October to mid-December.

Don’t know if they’re going to look like the picture on the seed package, or whether I need to cut them off, overwinter the roots and let them grow back in spring for that red-and-white look. Any thoughts on this?

I sowed a few more in a pot, I might wait a little bit longer before putting them in the veg bed, because the slugs seem to love them..

I think I started of with 6…. I’ve got just two left and put some Escar-go around them. I might try and sow a few more in pots, who knows, it might still work.

They’re still tiny.
