Melaco's Ornamental grass--Carex Prairie Fire
Carex testacea
I purchased this a few years ago, and I believe it was called “Fire Grass.” It sends up seed heads and turns a rusty color by late November.
Where is it?
Currently growing in Melaco's South Slope Rooftop garden
Milestones
Transplanted on 05 May 05

I did a quick search on google, and the closest I could find was Carex testacea ‘Prairie Fire’.
Here’s a website: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/126768/
Does that help at all?

Hi, Kelly! Thanks for this lead. It does look a lot like “Prairie Fire.” The link you sent is filled with great info—for instance, it says you can divide the roots to propagate the plant. Since this plant has gotten very big for it’s pot (and since the terracotta pot it is in cracked open last winter when it froze), I’m going to give that a try!
