Chives Dormant: Haircut blues
About a month ago, I gave these a haircut, trimming them all to about 3 inches tall, and they haven’t grown a spec since, so I’m assuming they are dormant.
I will be moving them before spring to share a container with my garlic chives.

Chives Astonishing improvement
My chives have been hugely improved since I gave them a haircut. The difference really is amazing. The dry bits are gone (because I cut them off) and it has just exploded in new growth!
The moral of this story is: if your chives aren’t doing well, mow them down!

Chives Vigorous growth
This plant has been doing very well since I gave it a haircut, just 3 days ago. About half the stems have grown over 2 inches since then, and the ones that haven’t grown look fine.
I’m feeling a lot better about this plant’s chances of making it through the winter.

Chives Haircut day
Inspired by the comments made about Wenjomatic’s chives, I took the scissors to mine. I needed chives for some scrambled eggs tonight (I love scrambled eggs for dinner!!!), and while I was at it, I chopped the whole clump down to about 1-1/2 inches high. I hope it helps them grow a bit better this fall before going dormant.
