Luvmygarden's Marigold - variegated
Tagetes patula
Yellow/red/orange varigated flowers – my daughter grew these in her yard last year from nursery stock. I saved some of the seed, hoping I could expand on the varieties marigolds in my veggie garden this year. My veggie garden insect problems declined last year and I believe that was, at least in part, due to my many marigolds scattered around.
Where is it?
Previously growing in Luvmygarden's Kitchen Lasagna garden

Hi, I’m glad these marigolds are working out for you. I’m going to give them a go this year as well – especially near the tomatoes! I was just wondering whether you sowed these outdoors already (maybe in a cold frame?).

Hi Annet. I sowed them by the ‘wintersown’ method – in a translucent plastic container outdoors last week. They have not sprouted yet, but hopefully will in the next week or two. I have a couple of other types of marigolds that I want to get sown soon as well. Last year I waited until early May and just started the seeds in the garden. They grew well and I transplanted several of them to the various beds. I wanted to get an earlier start this year in hopes they would be big enough to help fend off some of the earlier insect pests this year. They add so much cheer with their bright blooms, I don’t think I’ll ever plant another veggie garden without them!
