Harvesting: WOOT!
YeeHAW! No stringing, no sewing, no hanging. You just leave these beans on the plant until the husks are dry, then pop out the dried beans! Woot!! I harvested 3 pods today, 4 beans. The Violet Queen bush bean continues to grow, its leaves are now huge. However I wish it was a climber not a bush bean, because there would be more space for it to go upwards. At the time a bush bean seemed a great idea, but there is plenty of vertical space going unused.

I picked two beans off these vines when I first got back from the hospital, but yesterday was my first real harvest of them. A nice fat handful of purple pods, which went into a stir-fry with the Golden Scallopini squashes. Yum, and there’s plenty more on the vine. I think that this variety...

Since my first big handful of beans, there’s been one every 3 days or so, always enough to throw into a stir-fry or cook up as a side dish. I’ve had way more beans already this year than I did last year. I think I like the quick glut of the bush beans, and the slower, steadier product...

My bean plants are growing – especially now the sun is coming out. These are in a new bed and I’m suspecting that I have nutrient issues. I’ll work on that over the next week and see what happens.
