    Sown too soon

    Posted about 9 days ago | Cloudy 5°C / 41°F

I think I sowed these too soon as the weather was cold. The area they were planted in also wasn’t the best soil, so although had a harvest, it was small and not very successful. Next year I will try and hold out from sowing until a bit later.

    Cause of death: Frost

    Posted about 20 days ago | Cloudy 4°C / 39°F

These had managed to survive the first, light frosts even if they weren’t happy about it. But Sunday’s hard frost killed them.

    Harvesting: Harvesting and dying

These did not like the frost much. I pulled the few pea pods off the plants and left them in but I don’t have much hope that they’ll do anything.

    Ripening: Disappointing

    Disappointing
My poor peas. I’m not entirely sure why, but they never grew very high – about 25cm tops, and they’re funny, straggly things. They had lots of water, but weren’t fed at all, and I did nothing to improve the soil before planting. I mulched them, but not until after theyR...

    Sown
Peas in the square foot bed—I’m told they will probably make it even planted this late. We’ll see. They have sprouted well…that’s a pea plant in the pic!

    Fruiting: Lean on me

    Posted about 1 months ago | Cloudy 16°C / 61°F

So only about 5 of these came up out of the ones I planted. So with that and beginning of semester craziness I never quite got the motivation to put the trellis up for these. Hubby and I went out to the garden early this morning and noticed that, despite all odds, the 5 survivors were doing real...
