Elledee asked: Who knows what these are?

    Posted about 3 days ago

I remember finding these, I think growing wild, years ago, though I’m not sure where – probably in the woods. They aren’t balloon flowers. I’m zone 6b and they blossom about mid-July every year. Nice clumping. Lovely purple flowers.

I got some hybrid iris tubers from a friend about 5 years ago. They continue to multiply each year, but of about 40 plants only 5 ever bloom (the same five each year.) They get afternoon sun. What is this plant?
My mother-in-law gave me this plant about 5 years ago as a 6 inch shoot she “harvested” from a potted plant in Florida. She thought it was a nutmeg tree, but the leaves are nothing like a nutmeg. I’ve kept it as a house plant and put it outside for the summer. The first few years, it lost all its...

I have heard to wait until to pick the cantaloupe until it falls off the vine when you touch it. My first two have started splitting all around the outer shell so I picked it off the vine. It was perfectly ripe when I ate it, but I’d like to get them before the splitting stage. How do ...

    Is this tomato blight?
My tomatoes are big and healthy looking. (see the three next to tires in the second picture) The leaves are fine and there are lots of flowers and little green tomatoes growing. However, several of them have these nasty looking brown spots on the bottoms. My wife cut this one open and said the...

Posted about 10 days ago | 2 responses

We’ve had a wonderful harvest from our yellow squash plants and they continue to fruit, but a couple of them are looking yellow on the leaves and the large stem looks as though there is rot on one of them. Does anyone know what this could be?? I’ll try to get pictures later. Thanks! ...

Does anyone have other suggestions for the yellowing of these bean leaves?
the hidatsa beans that I have in my container box seem to be lacking some minerals. I checked on yougrowgirl.com forums and someone said that it is probably a magnesium deficiency and that I should give it more with an epsom salt solution. How do you tell the difference between a Day Lily and a Iris?
I rescued from a field what I believe to be Orange Bearded Iris but my sister says that Iris’ don’t flower this time of year (and they lost their flowers after I transplanted them last week) and that she thinks they are Day Lily’s. How do you tell the difference between a Day L...
