Spinach Tyee Seeds
Spinacia oleracea
PACKET:
Packed for 2008. With the deeply crinkled (savoyed) leaves that many people prefer in a spinach, this hybrid is slower to bolt – go to seed – than other savoy-type varieties. Its upright growth habit means less dirt clings to the leaves. And its vigorous growth and disease resistance ensures heavy yields.
1/2" planting depth, 1" seed spacing, 12-18" spacing between rows, 7-10 days to sprout, 3-4" spacing after thinning, and 44 days until harvest.
Planting: Plant seeds in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked. Plant again in July or August for a fall harvest. Before planting enrich the soil with compost. Sow seeds sparingly, firm soil gently over the row and keep moist.
Growing: Spinach grows best in the cool weather of spring and fall. Keep well watered. Begin thinning and eating when seedlings are 3 inches tall and continue until plants are at the recommended spacing. Fertilize every 3 weeks.
Harvesting: Pick individual leaves or cut off the entire plant at ground level. Tyee is cold hardy and will last through the winter in mild climates.
